Domaine Grand Veneur 2007, Chateauneuf du Pape – (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre from 65-year-old vines)
I’m preparing a Caesar steak salad. Whenever I cook steak, I must have a glass of red wine. I take a stroll over to the dining room and my eyes instantly go to the Chateauneuf du Pape, nodding in agreement at my choice.
I open the Chateauneuf du Pape and instantly the aromas greet me. I’m filled with thoughts of fullness, smoothness, and bold berries flavors. “Thank you Bob (colleague) for introducing me to this delicious wine”! It is the best recommendation I ever received; other than stumbling upon Ridge Vineyards, years ago.
As I pour, a rich dark color with purple accents wraps around the glass, BEAUTIFUL! I can’t wait to take in the full essence of this wine. The excitement gets the best of me and I have to take a sip… OH MY!!! Ok, time to begin this review before I finish this glass.
I sniff deeply, my eyes close and my mouth waters for more, wonderful aromas of berries & woodsy. At last another sip, eyes closed again, head swaying, YUMMY!
This is a delicious full-bodied, smooth, silky finish, with nice firm tannins. I keep licking my lips. JUST MAGNIFICENT!!!
Lay down for 12-14 years, if you have the will power.
Salute!
