Design on a Dime or Close to It!

“If you love something it will work. That’s the only rule.”

Bunny Williams

The title of this blog just popped in my head. Moments later, I realized the title is from the HGTV 2013 tv show that was on the air for thirty-one seasons. WOW! Design-on-the-Dime Season 11 episode 2 featured a “Tropical Patio” renovation for only $1,000; a $1,000, HA!

I called myself planning early, design plan complete. While everyone was purchasing their third and fourth Christmas tree, tv’s…  on Black Friday, I was scanning the sites for outdoor furniture.  Until, the realization hit that my eyes are bigger than my budget, A LOT BIGGER!

WEST ELM

West Elm Porto Outdoor Furniture Collection

BOXHILL

Boxhill’s woven two-tone outdoor patio set took my breath away! I found my new outdoor furniture! So, I thought…. AGAIN, the price is OVER MY BUDGET. At this point, I am contemplating raising my decorating budget. I just can not fathom paying $4k for a sofa. I found a dupe at Home Depot, but it does not have the two-tone frame.

SERENA & LILY

Pacifica Collection

Who does not love the magnificent Serena & Lily, Pacifica collection, which was my initial inspiration.  Yes, there are some pretty good dupes, but goodness, practically every outdoor patio I viewed online had light grey or beige rattan patio furniture.  Plus, I already have a rattan patio set that I will be placing on the patio.

TARGET and OVERSTOCK

Adore Decor Mirabelle Outdoor French Gold

OOH-LA LA – Adore Decor Mirabelle outdoor furniture is giving off some serious GLAM vibes!

The reviews are a HUGE concern. Fifty percent of the reviews complain of cheap frame, cushions are too hard to clean – need Scotchguard and every 2 years, the screws need tightening.

In addition, I do not feel the rug that I already purchased from Overstock pairs well with the french gold frame. It is also the total opposite of my design vision. So, Adore Decor Mirabelle outdoor furniture is out!

MICHAEL TAYLOR DESIGNS

Then I saw  Michael Taylor‘s outdoor furniture and fell in love! 😍 Unfortunately, it is too rich for my budget. And just like that my ahead-of-the-game design plan flew out the window!

THE BIG WINNER —

Studio McGee Target Midway outdoor furniture checked all the boxes! Yes, I said Studio McGee! Yes, Target! The store that you (well me) enter to spend only $20 and walk out spending $200+.

PROs: Affordable ☑️ Design ☑️ and icing on the cake, it resembles Michael Taylor ☑️☑️ CONs: Studio McGee Target furniture is hit or miss. Right now, fingers, toes and eyes crossed, it is a hit.🤞🏽🤞🏽👀🦶🏾

One Kings Lane

If you like Studio McGee Midway patio furniture but prefer an upgrade,  One Kings Lane Frances collection is a great option. The furniture frame comes in black or white; remember to sign-up for text alerts to get a 15% discount code.

CONCLUSION

I am not going to lie, I still want the West Elm Porto chair and sofa. However, I can not swallow the price tag and the additional delivery fees, which I do not like paying, especially after paying thousands of dollars.

Plus, I already purchased the Studio McGee Midway set and lots of pillows to recreate the Michael Taylor Design. The Midway furniture would look great against the patio stone pavers… BUT, there is too much landscaping needed in the backyard and around the pool, so “I will not purchase the West Elm Porto furniture. I will not purchase the West Elm Porto furniture.” (If I say enough and loud enough, I will believe it!) 😜
