#oldandugly & D-E-S-K-S!

“Darkness cannot drive darkness; only Light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only Love can do that.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

There is so much hate and war in this world, that it makes me sick; it’s just continuous and non-stop. At times, it is difficult to find the light through the thick darkness. I cannot help to ask, Why? Why is hate and war embedded in us? What does this say about our evolution as human beings? We have evolved in other areas (technology, medicine…) but when it comes to the treatment of each other, the growth is sluggish…. This is not the direction I intended for this blog. It’s just hard to ignore my feelings and writing has always been an outlet. So, I am in the sharing mood and dumping it all on you. 😜

The #oldandugly Trend

Yup, you read correctly. If you were not aware, there was an “old and ugly” trend on Twitter and Instagram.

Paulina Porizkov posted a bikini picture of HERSELF on HER Instagram page. The comment she shared from a follower made me sick to my stomach. First, the gall of this individual to say such horrible things; but hey, β€œfreedom of speech.”

BRAVO to you, Paulina for sharing and an excellent response! πŸ‘πŸ½ πŸ‘πŸ½ πŸ‘πŸ½

My thoughts when the follower said, β€œYou must be in so much pain to keep posting bikini pictures at your age.” Goodness, how much sadness, pain, hate, insecurity … the follower must possess to write such ugly words on a stranger’s post and to call them old and ugly.

On the radio I heard 5/2/22 was National Pray Day. I pray for healing for the world and pray for those who are hurting. I pray for those who feel their only way to healing is to lash out and spew hate onto others.

What made me laugh was the follower stating, β€œI pray you can come to terms with your mortality.” Lord Have Mercy! Who are you praying to?! The writer adds, β€œI feel your pain.” My observations: this individual’s self-image is not positive and may view themselves as ugly.

To support Paulina Porizkov, who in my opinion is STUNNING, I jumped on the bandwagon with the hundreds of men and women who posted pictures with the hashtag #oldandugly.

When I shared my Twitter post with my daughters, my oldest was horrified. She thought someone took my picture and added #oldandugly. πŸ˜‚. She was relieved after I explained the “oldandugly” trend.

D-E-S-K-S

Here is some unsolicited advice: I know we are triggered by many things that comes from internal feelings, experiences. For instance, if someone attacks a loved one of mine, I can go from 0 to 100 REAL QUICK! Mess with my cub and mama bear is going off! So, my advise is if you come across a social media post and begin to feel angered or triggered, remember the word “DESKS:” DEEP BREATHES, EXHALE, SILENCE and most importantly, KEEP SCROLLING!

Days later, my “why” question (in the introduction) was answered, which I will discuss in a future blog. A colleague share what is needed is “creating a culture of peace and love for all inhabitants.” πŸ™ŒπŸ½ 🌏

May peace be with the families and friends who lost love ones in the King grocery store, Boulder, CO and the Robb Elementary School Uvalde, TX shootings. When does it end … 😒

Be Safe My Friends! πŸ’–
